There are many myths surrounding radon that are simply not true. Below are a few of the most common.
- Bi-level homes have lower radon gas levels because the basement is not as far in the ground.
- Newer homes don’t have as much radon as older homes. Older homes, in fact, commonly have slightly lower levels of radon. This is due to the energy efficiency and air tightness of newer homes.
- Certain parts of Fargo – Moorhead have lower radon levels. There is no factual basis to this myth.
- Sealing a sump pump pit or floor cracks will lower radon levels. The only way to properly reduce radon to safe levels is to have a proper radon mitigation system installed by a qualified expert.
